Saturday Night June 4th County Line Raceway in Elm City was filled with excitement and good times, as the Late Model division returned for the first time this season. A field of twelve cars took to the 3/8 mile banked track and put on a fantastic show . James Batten of Sharpsburg started from the inside pole position, with Spencer Liggons of Lucama starting on the outside, but it didn’t take Liggons but half a lap to take the number one spot away and continue to lead every lap, earning him top money, and his first trophy of the year from County Line Raceway . Batten finished in second right on Liggons bumper where he had been the entire race. Other drivers behind the front two switched positions lap after lap during the 40 lap feature .Finishing in third was Britches Liles of Bailey in the car owned by Robert Corbitt. Fourth place went to J P Cascell of Rocky Mount in his first ride in a Late Model at County Line Raceway. Rounding out the top five was last years points champion Bobby Bottoms of Elm City,. Six through tenth were, Ronnie Boykin, Mark Boykin, Chad Braddy, Ken Bedford and Johnny Edmundson.
Last weeks winner Glenn Baker of Elm City made it two straight wins as he started from the pole of the 20 lap Super Street V-8 race and led every lap . Finishing second was outside pole sitter J J Pendergrass of Nashville. who rounded the track lap after lap on Bakers bumper. Third place went to Chris Ray of Zebulon followed by Mark Mckensie of Elm City and Mark Baker to round out the top five.
In the 15 lap Pure Stock V-8 class repeat winner Gary Whitley of Stantonsburg took top honors again. Whitley started on the outside of the front row beside pole winner Wesley Cogdell of Nashville. Cogdell had engine problems early and had to retire to the pits.
Michael Lamm of Battleboro looking for his first win at County Line settled for second .
The Mystery Driver in the black # 18 finished third. Rounding out the top five was Jerry Williams of Snow Hill in forth and Scott Taylor fifth.
Elm City’s Michael Webb took home first place money and trophy in the Super Stock 4 Cylinder Division. Webb started from the outside front row, but at the drop of the green flag he shot out front and stayed for the entire 15 lap feature. Brandon Wells of Kenly let the leader know he was there, as he tried time after time to get around him, but settled for second. Princeton’s young Dustin Mitchell finished third. Another Elm City driver Nick Etheridge in his first year of racing took forth, followed by Wilson’s own Robert Clay who shares the most improved driver award for the 2004 season at County Line Raceway
Tom Ballance of Zebulon won the 20 lap caution free Modified 4 Cylinder event . Michael Webb of Elm City in his second race of the night took second place. Jim Massengill of Wilson finished third followed by another Wilson driver Jesse Thorne Jr
Who shares the most improved driver award for the 2004 season at County Line Raceway
The 12 lap Pure Stock 4 Cylinder Class winner was Brian Medlin of Henderson. Medlin
started from the inside pole beside Blake House of Louisburg. House jumped out front and led the first 10 laps before spinning with 2 laps to go. House after having to go to the rear finished third . Second place went to Carlton Toney of Wendell, and forth was George Balance of Bunn .
